~Juicing for Health (Raw & Unedited)

A few years ago, I changed my eating habits for the better.  I watched what I ate, consumed smaller portions, and drank lots and lots of water.  Don't get me wrong!  I do have a sweet tooth that called and still calls my name all of the time.  Which was and still is fine... just not huge portions.

My story ~
One night while researching, editing, and so forth I came across 'Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.' A documentary by Joe Cross on Netflix.  That particular movie has changed my life.... or more realistically, my overall thinking!  If you have not heard of nor watched it... I highly recommend it!!!  Absolutely informative and valid towards the pathway to health!  So with that ~ I admit it! I jumped on the bandwagon towards a better and healthier lifestyle.  Not only for myself but, for my entire family!  So knowing that, I started Juicing!   Juicing!! Yes, Juicing!! Making ones own personal, natural and (semi) tainted free Juice!

Reason for Juicing ~
It is incredibly healthy and great for ones body.  It allows the body to soak up nutrients that are absolutely beneficial towards ones livelihood, well being, and process of life.  Furthermore, as I watched the Joe Cross journey within the video I found it to be profound in more than one way.  It was not like a typical documentary of observing and learning about others nor, did it tell the viewer 'that they should juice.' It was a simple well presented outlet in order to allow the viewer to follow along the struggles and journey of one man.  With that, he traveled, met people, and in the end turned several lives around for the better.

Naturally, I did a lot of research about juicing before getting involved and asked a lot of questions.  One being, 'what was the difference between blending and juicing?' in terms of the nutrients it ultimate provided.  First off, juicing takes out most, if not, all of the pulp.  Something that was a huge plus for me.  It is smoother on ones stomach due to the fiber being extracted.  Later on, after the initial fast that part can actually be added or supplemented back into ones routine in terms of blending within smoothies, baked in food, mixed in soups, and a whole lot more.

So with that, I plan on adding some of my personal juicing recipes' including others that I have tried in addition to some tips that were helpful along the way!  With that, take a look at the following chart from Dr. Decuypere in order to find out more in regards to minerals and vitamins that fruits and veggies provide.

Healthy Nutrition and Juicing ~
The core of this particular page was for the purpose of providing lessons geared towards health and wellness.  I am absolutely for making sure little ones know the difference between good and bad choices in terms of food and drinks.  Knowing that, this entire page will focus on the following:

Health Education Content Standards (K-12)

Juicer ~
Brand: Jack LaLanne's Power Juicer Express Model: # MT-1020-1

Pros:
-- Not as noisy or heavy as the Breville (the one that I previously borrowed)
-- Decent size for a small kitchen
-- Has a spout that you can lift up when you are not ready to pour.

 Cons:
-- Doesn't have all of the options for soft to hard foods like the Breville.
--  Sometimes carrots get stuck

Overall, this is a nice juicer and I would recommend it for those just starting out.

*Also! One tip that I found throughout my research... if you put a plastic bag in the pulp container it's less clean up. This is great if you don't plan on using it. Otherwise, use the pulp in smoothies, soups, muffins, etc.

Day 1 ~  Grapefruit Brunch juice
This one we made up! It was refreshing and surprisingly good.  Although, probably better if chilled.

2 large grapefruits (peeled)
2 small red apples (take the seeds out)
2 carrots (peeled)
1 lemon (peeled)

Day 5 ~  Yummy Berry Juice!
This one was delicious!  It has bright colors, great flavors, and lots of nutrition!
This particular juice I found to be incredibly sweet and smooth to drink.   I know that some people may not enjoy spinach for various reasons ~ personally, I believe either in a salad, blended, or juiced balances the overall tastes of the beneficial vegetable. This one contained 2 handfuls spinach, 1 cup of raspberries, 1 1/2 cups of strawberries, 1 1/2 cups of red grapes, 1 kiwi, and a 1/2 inch of ginger.

Day 6:  Old Fashion 'Mean Green'
This particular one was taken from the video by Joe Cross.  I admit! This one requires time in order to adjust to its particular taste.  Just remember!! It IS healthy!! It does wonders for ones body through the means of supplying it with a great deal of natural vitamins and minerals.    ~ 6 Kale leaves, 4 celery stalks, 1 lemon, 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 ginger, 2 green apples, and courage to drink!!

My husband absolutely did not care for the 'Mean Green'.  No one ever said that juicing was easy!! So, I made him another fun berry drink!! This one included a bunch of spinach, strawberries, red grapes, blueberries, blackberries, and 1/2 of lemon.  This one was sooo good.  It reminded me of Welchs. (however, w/o allllll of the sugar and various other stuff they might put into the "juice.")
Remember  to have your children help with juicing!! I truly believe that the more they are involved with healthy food and drinks the more likely they will consume more!  *Not-to-mention, this can be a health lesson! (Look at the standards above)  A lifelong one at that! Not everything has to take place in a classroom, at a desk, or on a piece of paper.

Day 7:  Watermelon & Lemon
In one word ~ REFRESHING!! This particular one would be great chilled!
Put as much watermelon as you want with one lemon.

According to research Watermelons are an excellent source for our bodies.  It has "high-lycopene" which is great for "cardiovascular health", "bone health", blood flow, and more.  This delicious fruit is not only visually appealing  ~ it improves ones body within outstanding ways.  Some of the health benefits include:  "Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Support", relaxation, "protein", elements of nutrition, "fiber", "magnesium", "potassium", and Vitamins A and C"!!   For an in-depth nutritional evaluation take a look at the following grid from The World's Healthiest Foods.

~ Chill, Drink up, and Enjoy ~
